Deltona Man Arrested for Alleged Sexual Activity with Teen

55-year-old Jason Mummaw was arrested on Thursday by the Volusia Sheriff's Office for allegedly having sexual relations with an underage teenager. The victim, said to be 17 years old, first came into contact with Mummaw at an Orange City karate studio he used to own. According to the VSO, the alleged abuse between Mummaw and the victim began in 2022. It was said to have taken place both at All-American Karate on Volusia Avenue in Orange City, and at Mummaw's residence. Police in DeLand and Orange City were first informed of what was going on in December 2023. The Volusia Sheriff's Office was subsequently brought in on the case, and an investigation was launched. That investigation culminated in an arrest warrant being obtained for Mummaw on Thursday. Upon locating him at his residence, Mummaw was arrested by the VSO's Deltona Crime Suppression Team on Thursday without incident. He's charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor and sexual battery on a minor between 12 and 18 years old by an authority figure. Mummaw was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on Thursday shortly after 6:30 pm with no bond. Charges were levied against him by both the Volusia Sheriff's Office and Orange City Police Department. The VSO has stated it does not currently believe there are additional victims in the case.
