Daytona Personal Trainer Charged with Voyeurism, Child Porn Possession
A personal trainer in Daytona Beach has been arrested for having allegedly secretly filmed a roommate and possessed child pornography. 28-year-old David Van Moorsel is charged with 110 crimes for the various offenses he's accused of having committed. Detectives with the Volusia Sheriff's Office first became aware of Van Moorsel's accused activities on June 16th, when a former partner told them he'd been secretly recording their female roommate for two years. The content in question reportedly depicted the roommate in explicit situations. Further complicating the matter was that the former partner also found out Van Moorsel was apparently sending explicit photos to others online without the roommate's consent. Upon investigating this further, the partner is said to have found multiple hidden cameras in a bathroom and a bookshelf in a bedroom. Detectives seized multiple of Van Moorsel's cell phones, reportedly discovering the aforementioned content of their roommate. They also found communications that appeared to be Van Moorsel facilitating the distribution of these photos to others online. But the discoveries didn't end there. Also reportedly found on Van Moorsel's phone were videos of women working out at his workplace, Gold's Gym in Daytona Beach. These videos, while potentially distasteful, did not result in criminal charges as they were legally filmed in a public place where there was no reasonable expectation of privacy. Though the nature of the photos was not specified in a report by the Volusia Sheriff's Office, Van Moorsel was also said to have been found in possession of child pornography. The VSO mentioned a prior arrest and conviction of Van Moorsel in Montana for having touched a 13-year-old relative and watched another 13-year-old showering. Van Moorsel was arrested on Tuesday on 40 counts of video voyeurism, 40 counts of unlawful usage of a two-way communications device, and 30 counts of child pornography possession. He's currently being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on no bond.
